Separation by Balance and Composure -
This album wasn’t bad to workout to today.
Separation is full of dreamy guitars, hard hitting, distorted chords; and introspective lyrics.  It also has a handful of really great driving tracks full of anger and discontent.  I also love Jon Simmons’s vocal delivery.  I saw B&C live in December and have been a fan ever since.
While running on my elliptical, (my machine of choice) I found that even during the slower tracks, I still found myself keeping a good pace, remembering the driving, hard hitting tunes that were played shortly before.
Also when I work out, I like when my mind wanders and I’m not thinking (or rather overthinking) of the task at hand; because exercising can sometimes get boring when you do that.
While on the elliptical, I found myself concentrating a lot on the lyrics (which are one of my favorite things in any genre).  Many songs hit home for me, which made me even more motivated to push harder.
But whether you’re at home or at the gym, I hope you enjoy this record as much as I do and have a great workout. :)

With summer fast approaching, the rush to the gym/track/treadmill is nearly inevitable for the masses.
I personally have also started my own daily regimen of diet and exercise in order to be more fit for the oncoming summer months.
Because of this, I thought it would be a interesting experiment to blog about what albums I’ve enjoyed while working out.  Hopefully I’ll be able to shed light on a new favorite you can enjoy while getting your swell on.
For me, I really need a motivational soundtrack to keep up my pace and to keep me coming back the next day so I don’t fall out of the loop.
I tried briefly searching for some lists, but it’s mostly dubstep and electronic BS I’m honestly not into when it comes to working out. A repetitive squelch, syncopated 808s, and thudding bass don’t really get me going. Sometimes they do. But it’s definitely not a musical constant I keep going back to.  Exceptions being Daft Punk’s album Discovery for example. (A work of GENIUS)
Today’s great find was Hopeless Romantic by The Bouncing Souls. This album kept me pumped from start to finish.  I’m started to realize more and more that ‘99 was a really good year for music and this album supplements that observation.  Really catchy and driving tunes; great for a workout.
If you don’t own the album, it should be easy to acquire using Spotify or whatever other music streaming service you’re subscribed to. (As the world knows, I’m an avid user of MOG).
I’ve always loved the Bouncing Souls from the time I heard them as a kid on a 2004 Warped Tour Compilation. The fact that they’re from Jersey only scores more points in my book.
But you be the judge.  And feel free to suggest albums to me! I’m always open for suggestions.
Have a great workout! :)
